American Voices, Global Voices

I put together something to help flush out my idea for an American Voices portal similar to what is being done at Harvard’s Berkman Center with Global Voices. Feel free to submit changes and suggestions on how to better shape this idea I could use the help.

American Voices

The primary mission of American Voices is twofold: 1) To call attention to the most interesting conversations and perspectives emerging from citizens throughout America by linking to text, audio and video blogs and other forms of grassroots citizens media being produced by people living in America. 2) To facilitate the emergence of ethnic leaders of the digital era and provide a means of mentorship for minorities in America.

At a time when minorities in America increasingly look towards the Internet and technology for answers now more then ever a resource that connects minority leaders in technology with aspiring youth and adults is necessary. Who are the digital voices for Philippine Americans, Mexican Americans, and African Americans in our country? What are these groups saying and who’s listening? American Voices will function as a clearing house of Bloggers and Internet visionaries that will act as pseudo voices for their respective ethnic communities. By utilizing a mix of open source blog and Wiki software it will be a community built by its community.

Sounds very interesting. I’ll subscribe to the RSS as soon as you are up, I think this would be an instant hit.

interesting premise. As a black male i find it difficult to even want to emulate many of the so called black role models, Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakan are slime, I’ve lost respect for Powel and Rice. Where’s the current generations Martin and Malcolm?

I don’t think the young people in the US think much about politics or change. They seem to be more interested in money and celebrities. Unless you travel outside the US and see how the rest of the world lives, most people don’t really understand how we take for granted all the things we have here. Sometimes I found it surprising how Ejovi still has pride for the US, but I think it is because he is young and still has hope, and I think it is good that he is trying to make a change instead of just trying to build wealth and live in his own world. I guess even if he makes a small dent, it is worth it…at least he is trying.
