National Disgrace

I’ve been in NYC running around this week setting up our new office and getting things done before the long holiday. Net access hasn’t been stable but I’ve managed to follow the news of the hurricane and it has been depressing.

I know this country isn’t perfect but we should not have Americans dying in the street from lack of medicine, water and food. We have been spending billions of dollars since 9/11 preparing for disasters and when one hits, our response? Lackluster. Poor. Unorganized. People are laying dead on the streets and we wonder why the victims are angry?

Today I saw on TV news of to two photos published by major press agencies. One showed blacks taking food from a grocery store with a caption describing them as looters. Then another agency shows whites carrying food also taken from a grocery store with the caption of “victims find food.” Its a sad time.

I too have often wondered why news coverage is so biased. I suppose the simple answer is that we don’t control the media. I agree that it is disgusting. BTW: How long will you be in NYC? Let’s meetup.

Long time no speaking. Glad to hear that you are doing well. Yes, it is sad to see all the biased news especially when people are suffering when they do not need to.

In some ways I found a bit of improvement in JP that Japanese media report things rather a bit more fair and questioned about the treatment for people with lower income and minorities when time in needs rather than focusing on how blacks stole things etc.

West side of Japan also got hit by Typhoon badly but due to the landscape differences and less population etc, the disaster is not bad as New Orleans. It makes me and many other wonder what is going in N.O even more.

My heart goes out for them. Here is a link that you may want to check.

It is one of my school that I had attended. The association has been trying to provide space and education for children who lost homes in N.O. and local homeless and abused children particularly minorities.
