Vacation in Osaka?

I can’t remember when I’ve actually had a real vacation. I squeeze in these mini vacations that are really work with some “relaxation” involved.

I finished my talk on VoIP Security at Blackhat in Tokyo Tuesday and made a trip to Osaka today (Wednesday). I’ll be here until Sunday when I fly back into NYC. This is a vacation for me. The benefit of a vacation is that it allows me to step outside the daily motions and think and explore ideas. At work I’m too busy trying to execute my ideas. And this is why I came to Osaka.

Osaka is where my dear friend and fellow entrepreneur Martin Williams (pictured above) lives. His schedule is not as hectic as mine is in America (does that mean he is more successful?) so we spend a lot of time talking about business, finance and history…oh and women.

I’ve found that I need to be around entrepreneurs to maintain my sanity. I don’t know too many in NYC yet, but Martin is special because he was the first person to introduce me to entrepreneurial methods and reasoning. Mostly through reading Robert Kiyosaki’s books particularly Cash Flow Quadrant and Rich Dad Poor Dad though there are many other books worth looking at, Kiyosaki’s theories and books are easy to read and understand. More importantly discussions with Martin in Osaka cafes when I lived here really brought life to those theories. Maybe that’s it; being around entrepreneurs helps bring life into good ideas and help kill them if they are bad.

When I’m not on the telephone or sending out emails I hope to go out to these cafes again and become reenergized. If I can manage to do that then I guess my vacation would have served its purpose.

Have you played Cashflow 101? It really is a great game. You should also consider reading the classic “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napolean Hill.
